I present...THE SEME AND UKE! *thunder effects*

Yeah, I know they suck (I usually draw these late at night) and the uke looks like a damn girl, but honestly it just happened. My hands and fingers are alive, I swear. There are some drawings where the uke looks like a guy (AND HE'S SUPPOSED TO BE) but then aaahhh, they were like, crap.

Oh.

They didn't look like how I imagined them. Nothing's wrong with that, of course. It's just that I'd have to reconstruct them in my mind's eye when I'm reading your story. Hmm, I dunno. Personally, I liked it better when it was the reader who was in charge of the physical appearance. I haven't been reading the latest updates, but I assume that you haven't described physical characteristics yet, or have you? I guess I would find it inconsistent if you had not, but disclosed drawings nonetheless. I mean, this is supposed to be primarily a literary thing, isn't it? So wouldn't it be logical to describe appearances in words first before including some art into the project?

The third drawing's pretty, but quite fuzzy on the lower right (photoshoped?). Something's wrong with the uke's neck...but other than that, everything else seems more or less proportionate.

Another thing that doesn't quite jive is how the characters remain nameless. I know that you really wouldn't give them names, but I'm just pointing out (at least from my perspective) that being nameless might hold them up from becoming completely life-like. You have given them everything else, from personality to appearance, with drawings and all, and the story is actually quite long and has progressed a lot.

When you actually think of it, isn't it the character's name that is first introduced in most novels? I think that is actually one of the initial steps in defining a person, or anything for that matter - coining up a term to call it. Like, I don't think "love" could be a concept in itself if we hadn't named it and had just kept on defining it as "something we feel." Furthermore, names could be trademarks, could have an impact, ie., "Harry Potter." True, some characters aren't granted any names, but for the most part it's because they're not meant to stand out, or they're intended to be mere icons.

But on the other hand, it would take skill to give them names at this point. It shouldn't feel random, and though readers might have to adjust as they've been used to calling the two 'seme' and 'uke', it shouldn't be difficult for them. Anyway, it's your call entirely.
